The MINERVA Center, Inc. proudly announces the formation of its long awaited Minerva Society for the Study of Women and War (MSSWW). The Society will encourage and support scholarly activities related to women’s military studies.
MSSWW will bring together Minerva’s many friends and supporters in a formal organization that can make efficient use of mutual resources. When MINERVA first began publishing its journal, almost all of subscribers were either active duty women or women veterans. Today most of MINERVA’s constituency is civilian and academic. And so the Minerva Society for the Study of Women and War (MSSWW) will organize as a professional membership organization with Minerva: Women and War as its official organ. All members of MSSWW will receive a subscription to the journal as part of their dues, which will be structured on a sliding scale to accommodate various categories of membership, including Active/Retired Military and Students/Cadets, to be announced later.
During the year 2006, we are inviting our supporters to become Founding Members through tax-exempt donations of $100 or more. Donations of anyamount from benefactors are invited and welcome. Members who join us now will assure that sufficient funds accumulate to sustain the organization in these early months and provide some financial support for our embryonic part-time staff. There will be an election of officers once we reach a critical number of 100 members and the membership will determine the nature of activities to be undertaken by MSSWW.
The Minerva Center’s Consulting Director for Institutional Development, Hank Preiser, has consented to assume the duties of Acting Executive Director of the Society until such time that funds become available to hire a full-time person for the position.
